Lee Do-yeon (Sports Grade WH4, Jeonbuk Disabled Cycling Federation), the ‘ironman’ of the disabled cycling world, won the Asian Para Games (APG) for the third time in a row.
Doyeon Lee won the 2022 Hangzhou APG Women’s Handcycle (H1~5) road solo gold medal by covering the 13.5km cycle road course at Chunan Jieshou Sports Center in Hangzhou, China, in 23 minutes 35.80 seconds on the 26th.
Disabled cyclists ride different bicycles depending on the type of disability, and Lee Do-yeon, who has lower extremity disabilities, is a handcyclist who pedals with her arms while lying back. In the road solo race, competitors start at one-minute intervals and compete for their own personal records.
Lee Do-yeon recorded a time of 10 minutes 21.91 seconds through the first section of the day, 4.11 seconds behind China’s Sun B&B (10 minutes 17.80 seconds), but turned around by increasing her output in the second half. In the final record, Doyeon Lee was 15.65 seconds faster.
After the game, Lee Do-yeon heard the record from a reporter in the joint coverage area and cheered after confirming that she had won first place. He then took a deep breath and said, “I am the oldest player here. “I was intimidated by young people, but since I was representing the national team, I used my age as an excuse and ran for my life.”
